Neil Turbin, the original voice of Anthrax, will make his debut on Brazilian stages in April with a heavy repertoire: celebrating 40 years of the classic debut album Fistful of Metal.
The record, which comes with the anthems “Deathrider” and “Metal Thrashing Mad”, will be played in its entirety along with the EP Armed and Dangerous (1985) and Spreading the Disease (1985), under the Som do Darma label on April 21st at Correria Music Bar in Vila Velha/ES; April 22nd at CDM Metal Fest in Campo do Meio/MG, and at Jai Club, São Paulo/SP.
In the city of Espírito Santo, the event is signed by Lifeforce Produções, and the celebration will be twofold. Lifeforce hosts celebrate 20 years of existence, including with the album Apokalipsis recently added to their discography. The line-up also includes the bands Hammathaz and Desert Voices, the latter on its second show for the release of the album Never Ending.
On the same day, from 4pm, there will be a Meet and Greet at Carneiro Instrumentos Musicais at Shopping Praia da Costa, in Vila Velha-ES.
In Campo Verde, Minas Gerais, Turbin will perform on the second night of the CDM Metal Fest (Saturday) with great names of the national metal, such as Edu Falaschi, Troops of Doom, Viper, The Mist and Azul Limão. Besides Seventh Seal, Justabeli, Hammathaz and the veteran punks from Garotos Podres.
The end of the tour takes place in São Paulo, organized by Caveira Velha Produções, with Selvageria, Warsickness, and Hammathaz.
When referred to as the “first lead singer of Anthrax” his name goes beyond commanding the microphones. The band was born in July 1981 with guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. After a series of attempts with other singers, the duo found Neil Turbin (then in New Race) in August 1982, and with him recorded the self-titled demos (1982 and 1983).
With the obvious exception of the cover for Alice Cooper’s “I’m Eighteen”, all the lyrics on Fistful of Metal are written by Tubin, who also gets credit on five tracks on the Armed and Dangerous EP – and two more from ‘Spreading the Disease’ – although he was already out of the group, however.
His last show with Anthrax took place at the Roseland Ballroom on August 3, 1984, on the band’s first tour, the “Anthrax US Attack Tour 1984”. From there, Turbin joined countless bands and projects, such as Kurt James Band, Bad Applz, Wrecking Crew, School of Hard Knocks, Immortal Soul, DeathRiders and Turbin.
