Tim Aymar, American vocalist known for his work in the bands Pharaoh and Control Denied, has died at the age of 59. So far, the cause of death has not been revealed. Confirmation of his passing came via his bandmates, Chris Kerns, Chris Black and Matt Johnsen (Pharaoh), who wrote:

“We are very sorry to share the terrible news of the death of Pharaoh’s only vocalist, Tim Aymar. Tim meant so much to so many people, whose hearts are suddenly flooded with sadness, but also with memories of his life and music. We look forward to sharing some of our own memories when the time is right. Until then, we are united in sadness and gratitude with all of Tim’s family, friends, fans and fellow musicians.”

His time with Control Denied was even more expressive, since it was a new vision of the late guitarist Chuck Schuldiner. The group released the seminal The Fragile Art of Existence in 1999, which featured a line-up essentially of Death members.

The late death/progressive metal band issued their statement on social media: “It is with deep sadness that from various sources it appears Tim Aymar has passed away. Our deepest and most sincere condolences to his friends and family.”

Extremely active in the heavy metal scene, Tim Aymar was also a singing teacher. His recording resume was extensive, beginning with the band Overlord in the late 1970s, followed by Axis, and then 313 from 1985 to 1987.

From there, collaborations and stints in groups both brief and long-lasting only increased, and include names such as Helios – from which he recorded ‘Touch the Sun’ last year -, Angband, ReCoil, Psycho Scream and Aymargeddon.
